Albert Camus is one of my favorite writers for a reason:
Wow I love this quote! In many ways it sums up the idea of this blog. I love people who break the rules: travel, help, love unconditionally. I love the people who don't care what others think, who don't just try and find the highest paying job and who help others because they can. I want to be more like that. I don't want to play by the rules of our society (easier said than done).
Your statement comes across as if you don't love or respect those who are ambitious in attempting to find "the highest paying job". Just so you know I didn't take this personally at all, but I did want to say that when you find someone you want to spend the rest of your life with and you start a family with that person, there is an overwhelming desire to provide for them. It is difficult to explain but it isn't about you anymore. My desire to succeed in work and progress is entirely motivated by the family that I care about more than myself.
ReplyDeleteI don't respect those who look for the highest paying job at the expense of their family. You don't do this, and so you wouldn't fall into that category. I was in a serious relationship, I know how that changes things and while I don't have kids, I can imagine that would change the situation even more. But the idea that a family needs things more than it needs each other is so wrong. I am not rallying against providing for your family. I'm rallying against focusing on things more than people.
